Drink the tap water; it is the local flex
Aruba desalinated the island's water on purpose. Carrying a case of bottles as if you were on a cistern island is wasted luggage. Fill a bottle at the hotel like a Nordic trip, not a Belize-caye trip.
Florins and US dollars, Papiamento greetings, drinkable tap water, and eSIM data from Queen Beatrix without a SETAR queue.
Secure, effective and private eSIMs across the globe
Aruba sits outside the main hurricane belt, which is why the trade winds and the cactus-and-aloe interior feel different from a Jamaica or Bahamas wet-season story. Eagle Beach and Palm Beach are the hotel coast; Arikok National Park is the other island — caves, natural pools, and a 4x4 or tour, not a beach-chair transfer.
Papiamento is the greeting (bon dia, dushi); Dutch is official; English and Spanish are everywhere in Oranjestad. The florin (AWG) is pegged and USD is taken almost as a second cash. Tap water is desalinated and actually drinkable — a rare Caribbean fact, not a copy-paste 'buy bottles' line. Eat keshi yena and fresh catch at San Nicolas if you leave the Palm Beach menu.
Queen Beatrix (AUA) is a short ride from the hotel strip. SETAR and Digicel cover the developed north-west well; Arikok and some east-coast coves are a weaker story. An eSIM live at the jetway means Arubus, the rental-car desk, and the villa gate are not a hunt for the SETAR counter after a late Miami connection.

Aruba desalinated the island's water on purpose. Carrying a case of bottles as if you were on a cistern island is wasted luggage. Fill a bottle at the hotel like a Nordic trip, not a Belize-caye trip.
Dutch is official; Papiamento is the smile. English works everywhere on Palm Beach. Using only Spanish because you flew from Colombia is the wrong assumption — it works, it is just not the island's first hello.
You need a proper vehicle or a tour, water, and time. Treating the national park like a golf-cart loop from a Bahamas Out Island is how people bottom out a city rental on a caliche road.
Hotels will bill in dollars. The pastel stand and some buses still think in AWG. Keep small florins; do not dump every payment as USD and hope the change math is kind.
The south-east town has the murals and the catch. If you only eat on the high-rise strip you have not left Florida-with-cactus. Go once, even if the hotel shuttle looks confused.

Tour buses reach the Natural Bridge. The Natural Pool and the north-shore sand are another story: people put a jeep in four-wheel drive and still wait for a tow. Rent the extra clearance for the days you leave the hotel strip, not for every grocery run.

The cave list that used to scare first-timers — Fontein, Guadirikiri, Huliba, the Tunnel of Love — sits on improved national-park roads. Save the 4x4 panic for soft sand past the lighthouse, where ordinary SUVs still get stuck. Stay on the beaten park track and you can do the caves in a regular car.

Hotels, Palms, and most restaurants take USD. Snack trucks, some Arubus fares, and smaller shops are happier in AWG. Data finds an ATM in Oranjestad; it does not replace the coins.
The airport desk is convenient and also a queue. An eSIM installed at home is online for the taxi and the villa code. Unlocked iPhone XS / Pixel 3 / Galaxy S20 and newer skip the counter. Add SETAR later only if you want an Aruban number.
Not reliably. Download the park map and your tour driver's number in Palm Beach. Coverage is a north-west island story first.
Yes — desalinated and treated. That is specific to Aruba, not a Caribbean rule. You can still buy bottles if you prefer the taste.
Only if the plan lists those islands. They are separate countries in the Kingdom, with their own networks. An ABC-islands regional plan is the product to check, not a hope that Dutch Caribbean is one eSIM.
eSIM plans
Queen Beatrix is close to the hotels and still a bad place to stand in a SETAR line after a delayed connection. Install an eSIM before you fly and Arubus, the rental desk, and your Palm Beach check-in work in the car park.
SETAR and Digicel shops in Oranjestad can add a local number later. For Eagle Beach days and an Arikok morning, prepaid data already on the phone is enough to skip that errand.
