Albania's Ionian Riviera is the reason people extend a Balkans trip: the road from Vlorë down through Dhermi, Himarë, and Porto Palermo to Sarandë and the turquoise mess of Ksamil, with Butrint's ruins a short hop further. Eat fërgesë and tavë kosi, drink raki only if you like being invited into a second lunch, and learn a couple of Albanian greetings. Mother Teresa Airport (TIA) is where you want data already on — for the Rinas bus into town or a Bolt pin — not after a queue at a Vodafone or One kiosk.

Airport kiosks add a queue after a delayed landing. An eSIM you installed at home is online for the Rinas bus or Bolt. Buy a local SIM in the city later only if you want an Albanian number for landlords.
The plan stops when you are on Greek territory unless it is a regional Europe eSIM that lists both countries. Sarandë–Corfu is a real hop; check the country list before you treat it as one beach.
