ZR vans, cou-cou and flying fish, Bajan dollars, and eSIM data the minute you land at Grantley Adams.
Des eSIMs sûres, efficaces et privées partout dans le monde
Barbados is a coral island with two coasts that do not feel like the same holiday: the west (Platinum) is calmer water and hotels; the south is St. Lawrence Gap and Oistins; the east is Atlantic crash and soup bowls at Bathsheba. Bridgetown's Garrison is UNESCO, not a cruise-shop alley you skip for the beach.
ZR vans are the public transport — yellow buses with a stripe, a conductor, and a shouted destination. You pay in Barbadian dollars (BBD); US dollars appear on resort folios at a known peg, but the ZR wants Bajan notes. Eat cou-cou and flying fish, the national plate; Friday night at Oistins is grilled fish and tables in the car park, not a hotel luau.
Grantley Adams (BGI) sits on the south. Flow and Digicel cover the populated south and west more thickly than a hike on the east coast. An eSIM live at the jetway means the ZR destination, the west-coast villa gate, and the Oistins taxi are not a hunt for a kiosk after a delayed Virgin or British Airways arrival.

Conseils de voyageurs
De vrais conseils de personnes qui sont allées en Barbados, sélectionnés par notre équipe avec des liens vers les sources d'origine.
You flag the yellow van, say 'Oistins' or 'Holetown', pay in BBD, and call out when you want off. Treating it like a London hopper with a tap card is how you ride to the depot. The stripe colour is a hint, not a TfL map.
Cornmeal and okra with the national fish is the Bajan tell. If the menu only speaks jerk and nachos, you are in a Gap loop. Oistins Friday is grilled fish, not a ticketed show.
The Atlantic side at Bathsheba is soup bowls and rips, not a hotel lagoon. Copying a 'just swim everywhere' Bahamas tip is how people get in trouble on the east.
If you came for Kadooment, you came for that calendar. A random Tuesday 'carnival dinner' is not the same as the jump-up. Rooms and ZRs rewrite themselves around it.
Grantley Adams is near Oistins, not Holetown. A wrong pin is a long left-hand-drive lesson. Data at the jetway is how the villa on the west gets the right ETA.

The south-coast fish fry is a weekly gathering beside the boats, not a dinner reservation you move to Tuesday. Go then if you want the music and the grills; a weekday stall is a quieter plate.

ZR vans already own Holetown and the south coast. The east cliffs, Bathsheba and the one-lane parish roads are why people collect a local driving permit — and why they still keep an offline map.

Say the destination out loud — Bridgetown, Oistins, Speightstown — and confirm with the conductor before you sit. Pay in Bajan dollars. Data helps you follow the coast on a map so you shout at the right coconut tree.
BGI desks exist and add a queue after transatlantic flights. An eSIM installed at home is online for the taxi and the villa WhatsApp. Unlocked iPhone XS / Pixel 3 / Galaxy S20 and newer skip the counter.
Barbados treats tap water and most residents drink it. That is not the same advice as Belize or the Bahamas Out Islands. You can still buy bottles if you prefer the taste.
Bathsheba and the Atlantic parishes can be thinner than St. Lawrence Gap. Download maps before you leave the south. Coverage is a populated-coast story first.
Not on a single-country Barbados plan. Those are different islands and networks. Use a regional Caribbean plan if the itinerary hops.
Forfaits eSIM
Grantley Adams is a compact arrivals hall where the first decision is taxi versus a ZR you do not yet understand. Install an eSIM before you fly so the west-coast pin and the Oistins meeting work while you are still at the belt.
Flow and Digicel shops in Bridgetown or on the south coast can add a local number later. For a week of ZR hops and a Bathsheba drive, prepaid data already on the phone is enough to skip the airport desk.
