This is not the Dominican Republic
Different island, different country, different airport code. Flights, Spanish menus and Punta Cana resort logic belong next door. If your booking says SDQ or PUJ, you are not coming here.
Not the Dominican Republic: Roseau, rainforest trails, XCD, island minibuses, and an eSIM when the interior drops lodge Wi-Fi.
eSIM sicure, efficaci e private in tutto il mondo
Dominica is the Caribbean island people mix up with a whole other country. This is the Nature Island: volcanic, green, and stubbornly uninterested in a runway of all-inclusives. Roseau is a working capital on a wet west coast. Portsmouth sits on a calmer bay. The Kalinago Territory on the east is not a photo stop you invent a script for — it is a living community with its own pace.
The trip is hiking and water. Trafalgar Falls, Titou Gorge, Champagne Reef, and the Boiling Lake day if your knees and the weather agree. The Waitukubuli National Trail is a segmented walk across the island, not a casual afternoon. Roads switchback. Minibuses leave when they fill. A rental car is freedom and a negotiation with rain and potholes.
Eat mountain chicken only if you know what you are ordering (it is frog, and it is not always on the menu). Callaloo, fresh fish, and a Kubuli on a veranda after a wet trail are the more honest souvenirs. December to April is drier. Hurricane months are a real calendar, not a mood. This is not Punta Cana with a different flag.

Guides, early starts, river crossings and weather windows. Flip-flops on that trail are how rescue stories start. If the gorge is closed, it is closed.
Stand on the correct side of the road, know the destination village, and pay in small XCD. The last bus is earlier than you hope. Sunday is quieter.
When a ship is in, the bayfront fills with people who have four hours. Hike that day or eat two streets back. The island empties again by evening.
A card that worked at the dive shop may fail at a roadside juice stand. Keep XCD or small USD for buses, fruit and the trailhead snack.

Park staff at the trailhead turn walkers away without a registered guide. The Valley of Desolation is unmarked steam and mud, so the requirement is a safety rule, not an upsell.

Cruise passengers asking for a beach next to the dock are pointed inland or up the west coast. Dominica’s shoreline is black volcanic sand, and Mero is the swimming beach people actually name.

No. Dominica is a separate English-speaking island between Guadeloupe and Martinique. The Dominican Republic is Hispaniola. Different currency (XCD here), different plugs (Type G), different trip.
Maps, weather and a few waterfall photos: think 1 GB a day if you are not streaming in the lodge. Download offline maps before a Boiling Lake or Waitukubuli day.
Do not plan on it. Roseau and the west coast are the reliable bits. Treat the interior as offline and tell someone your return time.
Possible on a weekday. After a late DOM arrival you may want the guesthouse more than a shop. An eSIM skips that errand.
Only if the plan lists those French islands. The ferry fantasy is close; a country-only plan is not a Caribbean roaming pass.
Piani eSIM
Trail weather, a minibus that does not publish a PDF, and a pin for Titou Gorge all want data after you leave Douglas-Charles. A Dominica eSIM is online in arrivals without a Roseau counter that may already be closed.
Install it before you fly. The useful first screen is whether the road to your guesthouse is open, not whether the airport has a tourist SIM poster.
