N'Djamena on the Chari: XAF cash, French and Arabic, harmattan, arranged cars, and city 4G that does not follow you north.
N'Djamena sits on the Chari, opposite Cameroon's Kousseri, in a heat that starts early. The city is ministries, markets and a river border you do not treat as a casual stroll. Most foreign stays are work, family or a single organised itinerary. You fly into NDJ, you ride with a driver who was already booked, and you do not assemble a desert circuit from a highlight reel.
French and Arabic share the capital. The CFA franc (XAF) is cash. Brochettes and grilled fish appear when the evening cools a few degrees. Harmattan dust is a season. The Sahel dry months are when roads are more usable and the air is easier than the build-up to rains. Lake Chad is a geography, not a weekend beach plan you add from the hotel.
Check current official advice and your host's movement rules before you book nights beyond the capital. WhatsApp moves appointments. Bottled water is the default. The useful preparation is money, language, heat, signal and who is collecting you — not a list of 'hidden gems.'

Chad에 가 본 사람들이 남긴 실제 조언을 팀이 엄선하고 원문 링크와 함께 제공합니다.
NDJ is not an arrivals hall you wander out of toward a meter. A name, a plate, a WhatsApp ping.
ATMs exist in the capital until they do not. Small notes for tea, water and the market. Cards are not the week.
Offices lean French. Markets often lean Arabic. A greeting in the language in front of you is enough. A lecture about bilingualism is not.
Do outdoor errands early. Midday is for shade and water. This is not a metaphor and it is not optional in April.
If a movement is not on the host or employer plan, it is not a spontaneous morning. Confirm, then go.

You do not rent a hatchback in N’Djamena and point at Ennedi. Interesting country requires travel permits, a local who can talk you through checkpoints, and a vehicle from one of the few outfits that keep trucks fit for a long desert run. That arrangement takes weeks, not a hotel morning.

The capital is the staging post. Once you leave it, every journey is treated as a supported crossing with contacts and facilitation, not a map pin. Independent hopping between towns is not how people who have been there describe the country.

Cash XAF. Cards are rare outside a few hotels. Data helps you find an ATM and message the driver — it does not pay the market.
A travel eSIM skips a kiosk after a long-haul and has the pickup WhatsApp already live.
Treat it as uncertain. Download offline maps in N'Djamena. The eSIM does not create a network on a long Sahel road.
WhatsApp, maps and mail are enough when the generator holds Wi-Fi. A mid-size plan covers the city. Hotspotting all day is what burns it.
Only if the plan lists Cameroon or Nigeria. The Chari is a border. A Chad-only plan stops there.

N'Djamena after a long-haul is a poor place to learn a kiosk's passport ritual. A Chad eSIM is online so the pickup and the first WhatsApp land with you.
Install it before you fly. City 4G covers messages and maps. If you leave N'Djamena, treat coverage as uncertain and keep offline maps — the eSIM does not create a Sahel network.
