Mount Titano above Rimini: euro, three towers, a bus not a border drama, traveler tips, and data via eSIM.
San Marino is a republic the size of a rumour, entirely surrounded by Italy, perched on Mount Titano with three towers — Guaita, Cesta, Montale — stacked like a medieval argument. There is no airport. You come from Rimini on a bus, or you drive the switchbacks, and you walk stone that has been polished by day-trippers since before your guidebook existed.
The euro is the money. Italian is the language. The funivia from Borgo Maggiore saves the worst of the climb. The historic centre is UNESCO and also a gauntlet of crossbow magnets; walk through to the ridge and the view toward the Adriatic is the point. Eat passatelli or a piadina like you are still in Emilia-Romagna, because geographically you almost are.
April to June and September to October are the kind months. August is heat plus the Italian holiday crush from the coast. Winter can ice the stones. This is a half-day or one night, not a week — unless you are collecting towers and quiet mornings before the Rimini bus unloads.

Train to Rimini, then the bus up Titano. Screenshot the return. Missing the last coach is a taxi down a mountain, not a cute wander.
Guaita and Cesta are the pair most people climb. The path between them is the republic. The magnet stalls will still be there when you come down.
The tourist-office stamp is a paid memento, not an entry visa. You arrived through Italy. Do not treat the ink as immigration advice.
Mid-morning buses dump the Adriatic hotels onto the same stones. Dawn or late afternoon is when Titano feels like a country, not a queue.
A plan that lists Italy can still omit San Marino. Read the country line before you assume EU roaming followed you up the hill.
Rick Steves Travel Forum
Rick Steves travellers treat the cable car from Borgo Maggiore as the last mile, not a gimmick. Follow the signs for that lower town if you want the cabin; the road hairpins and the ridge car parks are the other, slower choice.

The Bologna-forum circuit that works is the three towers, the crossbowmen's quarry cut in the rock, the basilica and the cemetery. That is the old republic between the souvenir streets, and it fits an afternoon if you landed Rimini in the morning.

Only if San Marino is on the country list. The border is open and unremarkable; the network contract is not automatic. Unlocked iPhone XS, Pixel 3 or Galaxy S20+ can hold a plan that names both.
Maps and the bus return: a few hundred MB is enough for many people. A weekly Europe bag covers it if Titano is a stop on a longer Italy trip.
The old town is fine. Paths between the three towers can dip. Screenshot the bus time before you chase the third tower.
There is no airport kiosk story here. You came from Italy. An eSIM that lists San Marino (or Italy plus San Marino) is the clean approach.
San Marino is not an EU member state. Some Europe travel eSIMs include it; many list only EU countries. Read the list. Do not invent a rule from the euro in your wallet.
eSIM 요금제
The Rimini bus and the funivia both want a timetable you can refresh on the platform. A San Marino eSIM — or a Europe plan that actually names the republic — is online before you leave the Italian station.
Install it before you travel. The first useful screen is the last bus down and a pin for Guaita, not café Wi-Fi halfway up the stone.
