Yerevan's Cascade to Tatev: dram, lavash, the GG taxi app, and eSIM data the moment you leave Zvartnots.
Bezpieczne, skuteczne i prywatne eSIM-y na całym świecie
Yerevan is pink tuff stone, the Cascade's staircases, Republic Square at night, and the Vernissage flea market on weekends. A first trip that works is the capital plus Garni and Geghard in one day, Lake Sevan if you want altitude and a cold swim, Dilijan for forest, and the Wings of Tatev cableway if you have the hours to go south.
The dram (AMD) is what marshrutkas and lavash bakeries take. Cards are fine in central Yerevan. GG is the taxi app that locals actually open — not a global brand you imported. Eat khorovats, dolma, and gata; drink coffee the way the city does, slowly, and try apricot anything in season. The alphabet is its own; English appears on the metro more than in a village shop.
Zvartnots (EVN) is the airport. Viva, Ucom, and Team run 4G that is genuinely useful in Yerevan and along the main highways. An eSIM live at immigration means GG, the 201 minibus logic, and your Airbnb building code are not a hunt for a kiosk after a late Aeroflot-or-Wizz arrival.

Yerevan runs on GG. Installing only Uber muscle-memory is how you stand outside Zvartnots waving at gypsy cabs. The app is the meter.
Watch it slap onto the clay oven wall in a village bakery. Hotel bread is not the same food. Gata on a road trip south is the other bakery tell.
The Hellenistic temple and the rock monastery pair from Yerevan. Wings of Tatev needs a southbound commitment. Trying to do all three as a single 'Armenia highlights' loop is how you see the dashboard for ten hours.
Sevan and Dilijan vans have habitual corners. Ask the hotel to write the Armenian destination. Treating them like a booked Flixbus is the wrong Balkans import — wait, here the wrong import is a Georgian marshrutka assumption that the same yard names apply.
Walk it, do not only photograph the stairs from the bottom. Republic Square's fountain show is the other free clock. Both beat another mall that could be in any post-Soviet capital.

Haghartsin and Goshavank sit in trees above Dilijan; Lake Parz is the local walk. Travelers who 'do Sevan and Dilijan in one glance' usually see a peninsula church and miss the wooded pair.

The monastery is a different landscape from Garni's temple or Geghard's carved gorge. If the day forces a choice, regulars will not swap Khor Virap for another lake stop — the mountain sits in the frame.

Yes for Yerevan addresses — drop a pin, do not type the alphabet on the first morning. Drivers still call; a working data line is how you answer. Village days are often a hired car, not GG.
Kiosks exist and want ID. An eSIM installed at home is online for GG at the door. Unlocked iPhone XS / Pixel 3 / Galaxy S20 and newer skip that counter. Add a local SIM later only if you need an Armenian number.
Highways and towns are generally fine on Viva, Ucom, or Team. The ropeway area and some Sevan beaches can dip. Download maps and the Wings of Tatev confirmation before you leave Yerevan.
For restaurants in the centre, often no. For marshrutkas, monastery candles, and market fruit, yes — dram in small notes. Data finds the ATM; it does not pay the van.
Not on a single-country Armenia plan. Tbilisi is a real land crossing or a short flight, and a different network. Use a regional Caucasus or multi-country plan if Sadakhlo is on the itinerary.
Plany eSIM
Zvartnots is a compact arrivals hall where GG and a Yandex-style pin matter immediately. Install an eSIM before you fly and you are not in the Ucom or Viva queue with a passport after a delayed landing.
Those shops in Yerevan are still there if you want an Armenian number for landlords. For Garni days and Tatev tickets, prepaid data already on the phone is the piece that makes the ropeway booking and the return marshrutka a map problem, not a guess.
