Dhaka traffic, Pathao rides, taka, and eSIM data at Shahjalal so you are not hunting a Grameenphone desk in the crush.
Безопасные, эффективные и приватные eSIM по всему миру
Dhaka is the trip's operating system: Shahjalal International (DAC), CNG auto-rickshaws, and Pathao for rides and food when the street is a parking lot. A first visit that works is the capital plus one escape — Srimangal's tea estates, the Sundarbans if you came for the mangrove, or Cox's Bazar if you want the long beach — not a highlight reel that pretends the country is small.
The taka (BDT) is what CNGs and fuchka stalls take. Cards appear in Gulshan and Banani malls. Bengali is the language; English works in hotels and with Pathao support more than at a village tea stall. Eat kacchi biryani, hilsa when it is in season, and fuchka in the evening; drink cha in glasses, not as a latte performance.
Friday is the weekly pause. Traffic is not a joke you pack patience for — it is the reason you download Pathao before the plane door opens. Grameenphone, Robi, and Banglalink run 4G that is useful in Dhaka and thinner in the Sundarbans. An eSIM live at DAC means the Pathao pin and the hotel in Dhanmondi are not a kiosk fight after a midnight landing.

Советы путешественников
Реальные советы тех, кто был в Bangladesh, отобранные нашей командой со ссылками на источники.
Dhaka ride-hail is Pathao first. A CNG from DAC without a pin is a negotiation you do not want after a long-haul. Uber exists; Pathao is the local default.
The weekly pause is Friday. Banks and many shops run a shorter day. If you need a Grameenphone desk or a train ticket, do it Thursday. This is not a Gulf Friday-Saturday weekend copy — check the actual counter hours.
Pathao calibrates the price. Hailing a CNG on the fly without the app is how visitors overpay. Small taka notes matter; a 1,000-taka bill at a fuchka stall is a delay.
Ilish when the fish is running, kacchi biryani from a place that sells out by lunch — that is Dhaka. A generic 'Indian buffet' in the hotel is the wrong country on the plate.
You go through Khulna or Mongla with time and a licensed operator. Treating the mangrove like a Cox's Bazar beach afternoon is how people waste a flight. Download maps; do not expect Grameenphone in the forest.

The Bay of Bengal strand is famous for length, not turquoise emptiness or a swimwear scene. People fly from Dhaka; they do not expect a Caribbean postcard, and they pick a quieter resort strip if they want space.

The conch-bracelet street, Ahsan Manzil and the old town are the capital day that is not a diplomatic-quarter hotel. Gulshan is where many visitors sleep; it is not the walk.

Yes, if you already have data. Install Pathao before the flight, keep a pickup pin for the correct terminal, and pay in the app. That is the Dhaka arrival. A CNG argument at the curb is the backup, not the plan.
Airport desks exist and want ID. An eSIM installed at home is online for Pathao immediately. Unlocked iPhone XS / Pixel 3 / Galaxy S20 and newer skip the queue. Add a local SIM later if you need a Bangladeshi number.
Cox's Bazar town is generally fine. The mangrove and some boat stretches are not. Download maps and the operator's contact in Khulna. No honest plan promises a live stream between the sundri trees.
Bangladesh has had IMEI rules for foreign phones on longer stays. Do not guess a fee from a forum post. Check the current BTRC guidance if you are staying well beyond a short visit; a travel eSIM for a week is a different problem than importing a handset.
Not on a single-country Bangladesh plan. Benapole and the flight to Kolkata are a network edge. Use a plan that lists India if West Bengal is next.

Shahjalal at midnight is immigration, a taka ATM, and a Pathao pin — not a relaxing Grameenphone lesson. Install an eSIM before you fly so the driver and the Dhanmondi gate code work in the hall.
Operator shops in the city can add a Bangladeshi number later if a landlord requires local SMS. For a first week of Dhaka plus Srimangal, prepaid data already on the phone is the calmer start. If you stay long, check current BTRC rules for foreign phones rather than guessing a fee.
