Kinshasa on the Congo: francs and dollars, French and Lingala, domestic flights, Gombe pins, and city data that is not a national network.
Безопасные, эффективные и приватные eSIM по всему миру
The Democratic Republic of the Congo is a country the size of Western Europe with Kinshasa as a megacity on the Congo, staring at Brazzaville across a width of water you will not casually ferry. Gombe is the ordered grid of hotels and offices. The rest of Kinshasa is traffic, dust, rumba leaking from shops, and distances that eat hours. You do not 'see the DRC' in a week. You land in one logistics system and stay inside it.
French is official. Lingala is Kinshasa. Swahili is the east. The Congolese franc buys the street; US dollars still appear in larger hotel and flight conversations — clean, recent notes, not a torn bill from 2006. Domestic flights are how the map connects. Road plans are local knowledge, not a GPS scribble. Check current official advice and your host's or employer's movement rules before you add a city.
Liboke fish, pondu, a cold beer when the generator holds. The river is the geography. Goma, Lubumbashi and Kisangani are other countries in practice: different airports, different everyday languages, different weeks. Pack for heat, cuts and cash. The useful trip is the one that treated Kinshasa as a city to operate in, not a safari brochure that borrowed the name Congo.

Советы путешественников
Реальные советы тех, кто был в Democratic Republic of the Congo, отобранные нашей командой со ссылками на источники.
Know the hotel, the office, the restaurant. Kinshasa distances and traffic are the first lesson. A driver you already have is the method.
Torn or marked USD gets refused. CDF from an ATM or a trusted cash point covers the market. Do not mix the two maths at a stall.
Kinshasa is not a hub that casually adds Goma after lunch. Each city is an airport and a plan. Confirm the movement before you buy the second night.
Mbote goes further on the street than a long English paragraph. Offices will meet you in French. Match the room.
Power bank, bottled water, downloads, a torch. The evening plan follows whether the lights held. That is logistics, not atmosphere.

Travellers on the Kinshasa–Kisangani river run treat the cargo boat as a voyage, not a transfer. Rooms fill, schedules slip, and the trip can eat one to two weeks before you see the capital again.

In the east, a name like Queen Safari Tours is how you buy a Goma–Butembo minibus, not a game drive. Ask which town the vehicle actually leaves for before you treat the word safari as wildlife.

Domestic flights, not a road trip you invented. Each city is its own airport and plan. Confirm the movement before you buy the second night.
Hours and queues vary after a long-haul. An eSIM has the Gombe pin and WhatsApp pickup already live.
Parts of the city have it. It thins fast. Treat neighbourhoods you have not been briefed on as offline-map territory.
CDF cash for the street. Clean USD notes for some hotel and ticket desks. Data does not replace either. Phone wallets are not the Kinshasa default.
Only if the plan lists the Republic of the Congo. The river is a view. The network is a border.

N'djili after a long-haul is a poor place to stand at a kiosk. A Democratic Republic of the Congo eSIM is online so the Gombe pin and WhatsApp pickup work in arrivals.
Install it before you fly. Kinshasa 4G is enough for messages and maps in the neighbourhoods you will actually use. Download offline maps if you leave that grid — the eSIM is not a claim of nationwide coverage.
