Trinidad and Tobago is one country that refuses to be one mood. Trinidad is pitch lake, steelpan yards, bake and shark at Maracas, and a Carnival that rewires Port of Spain. Tobago is rainforest ridges, slower beaches and a breakfast that can wait. You hop between them on the inter-island ferry or a short flight — not on a wish and a water taxi from the wrong coast.
English is the language. The Trinidad and Tobago dollar is the cash. Type A/B sockets at about 115V will surprise Europeans who packed only a Schuko. Doubles — two baras and channa — are a morning religion on Trinidad; arguing whether Curepe or Debe does them better is how you meet people.
Carnival is a costume, a section and a plan, not a street you wander into in flip-flops. The rest of the year, eat roti, listen to a pan side rehearse, and give Tobago three nights so the island is not a day-trip rumour. This is not a generic Caribbean brochure with a different airport code.

Go early, say slight pepper if you are new, and eat standing. The line is the review. A food-court 'doubles' in a mall is a different food.
Book the ferry or the flight. Weather cancels sea days. Sleep in Scarborough or on the west coast; do not try to 'see Tobago' between a morning landing and an evening boat back.
Join a section if you want the road. Bring a charged phone, a meeting pin and shoes you can stand in. The pretty photos are Tuesday; the logistics are all week.
Go early, watch the north-coast road, and eat at a stall with a queue. The beach is the outing. Leaving a bag on the sand is how the outing ends early.
Ask the destination on the windscreen, pay the conductor, and say 'one stop' when you want off. Ride-hail apps work in parts of Trinidad; rural Tobago is still a phone call to a driver you were given.

They are one country. A plan that lists Trinidad and Tobago should work in Port of Spain and in Scarborough. Signal is simply thinner in rural Tobago. Unlocked iPhone XS, Pixel 3 or Galaxy S20+ can install before you land at POS or TAB.
Maps, messages and a lot of photos: 2 GB a day is easy in a crowd, so 15–20 GB for ten busy days is a safer stash than a tiny tourist pack. Streaming the replay at the hotel is what blows it.
