October to April is the season most visitors want. Summer inland is extreme. Salalah's June–September mist is the exception that has its own flight prices and its own crowds. A car is not optional outside Muscat — there is no passenger railway to save you.
A first trip is Muscat plus Nizwa and one wadi, or Muscat plus the mountains. Do not stack Empty Quarter camping, a turtle beach and a Salalah week into nine days. Oman is distances and heat. It rewards the slow drive.
