Almaty to Aktau or even Almaty to Astana is not a cute drive. Book the domestic flight, download the boarding pass, and save the road days for Charyn and the lakes.
Old blog posts still talk about two zones. Since March 2024 the country unified. Set the phone to Kazakhstan time and ignore a 2023 itinerary that splits Almaty and Atyrau.
