Uganda is a green, hilly country that puts a chapati-and-egg Rolex in your hand on a Kampala verge and a mountain gorilla permit on a spreadsheet months earlier. The capital is hills, matatus and boda-bodas. Jinja is the Nile as a town sport. Bwindi and Mgahinga are the forest walks you do not improvise at the gate.
The shilling is the everyday money. Safari and gorilla quotes often talk in dollars; street food and bodas want UGX in small notes. English is official and widely used. Luganda is the Kampala extra. A registered boda with a helmet is a tool; an unlicensed night ride is a story you do not want.
Do not stack Murchison, Queen Elizabeth and a gorilla trek into a week unless you like windscreens. Pick a forest or a savannah block, eat luwombo if someone cooks it properly, and give Kampala one real evening so the city is not only an airport transfer.

Chapati, eggs, cabbage, maybe beef. Eat it on the street in the morning. The mall version is a different calorie. Say how much pepper you actually want.

Regulars skip the capital when a flight is near. Entebbe is the lake town next to the airport; Kampala at the wrong hour is a different country. Leave the city before the afternoon jam or do not leave it at all.

Kampala and the main roads are fine. The forest walk is not a hotspot. Screenshot the meeting point and your guide's number in town. Unlocked iPhone XS, Pixel 3 or Galaxy S20+ can hold a Uganda eSIM for the city days.
City maps and messaging: about 1–2 GB a day when you have signal, so 15 GB covers Kampala plus park transfers if you are not streaming. Safari days use less than you think.
Possible, with ID. An eSIM means the first registered boda or hotel driver is a tap, not a desk.
Only on a regional plan that lists them. The Kigali and Nairobi roads are close; a country plan stops at the border.
